In this scene our main character Jordyn, has just come back from her first day in a new school in a new city. Her insecurities shine through as she reaches her tipping point after feeling like a misplaced outsider. With the help of her new roommate, Stephan, Jordyn must learn to accept help despite her stubborn nature. The script as a whole focuses on Jordyn’s navigation through an unfamiliar world, New York City, as an outsider. Specifically, this scene sets up what becomes her new home away from home and speaks to the importance of family, whether that be biological or chosen. This story speaks to my own personal journey of moving to New York and attempts to unpack the sensation of isolation and fraud that many experience during their transitory years in New York.
